This recording starts off with the most regular two-phrase call, often repeated for what seems like hours on end at any time of the day, and usually described as sounding like “tea-cher, tea-cher, tea-cher” .

However, there’s an enormous range of variation based on this, and each individual bird seems to have his own set of options, though always with the same phrase repeated over and over. The second part of the recording is one of these variations, but they can sound like almost anything – it’s often said by experienced birders that if you hear a bird you’ve never heard before, and you don’t know what it is – then it’s a great tit!
Both these birds recorded at Woods Mill on 6th April, at about 11am.


Hi I would just like to tell you all that in the past 3 years have succsessfully had great tits nesting in my front garden, this year they have 9 babies all still doing fine healthy & feeding well , just waiting for them to fledge.
