GATWICK GREENSPACE PARTNERSHIP

The Wildlife Trusts in both Sussex and Surrey are trying to deliver a landscape-scale network of wildlife habitat that would ensure long term ecological functioning. Gatwick Greenspace Partnership is one of those Living Landscape projects. We work across an area of some 200 squre kilometres, with a total human population of some 200,000 people, in the towns of Reigate, Dorking and Horley, in Surrey and Crawley and Horsham in Sussex, with Gatwick Airport in the middle.

Despite this seemingly urban setting the surrounding landscape is a rich one, with ancient woods, heathland and steep sided streams. We are working to restore and connect these natural habitats with landowners, local authorities, the Forestry Commssion and Woodland Trust. We also work in the greenspaces within towns to maximise the biodiversity opportunities there.
