OTTERS LAUNCHED INTO CYBERSPACE

This autumn, the Sussex Otters and Rivers Project (SORP) launches a new website – www.sussexotters.org - providing a wealth of free and easily downloadable advice sheets on a whole range of wetland wildlife topics.

Some of the fascinating information on offer includes how to be a successful otter spotter and plenty of wonderful water vole facts. Young wildlife enthusiasts can also download a free ‘Tracks on the Riverbank’ card to see if they can spot wildlife from the footprints it leaves behind.

From budding naturalists, to schools and conscientious landowners, the new website offers something to help everyone bring some of our most charismatic wetland wildlife back from the brink of extinction.

The SORP website has over 25 advice sheets on a wide range of subjects including effective land management for rare wetland species, how to make and manage a garden pond and how to control rats when water voles are present.

Fran Southgate, SORP Officer explains “Whether you’re a teacher, pupil, farmer or wildlife enthusiast, this website can help you find out more about wetland wildlife. It’s a one-stop shop to help restore wetlands for people and wildlife in Sussex.”

SORP is a unique partnership between the Sussex Wildlife Trust, the Environment Agency, South East Water and Southern Water Services. SORP works towards the sustainable management of river landscapes, and the restoration of wetland habitats for both people and wildlife.
