PEVENSEY MARSHES

A large area of grazing marsh with numerous ditches and pools

Permit-only Access

Pevensey Marshes is one the few Trust nature reserves that is not open to the public. The very open nature of the landscape means that the birds are easily disturbed by any human presence, and so access is restricted to visits by permit for scientific purposes only.

This reserve, like many others, is maintained by grazing livestock. The livestock is provided by three local farms. Some of the milk from these cows is used to make organic yogurt and smoothies by Court Lodge Organics.

What you can see

Rare wetland insects and molluscs, the fen raft spider, unusual wetland plants, some breeding waders, many passage and wintering wetland birds.
